1) I am a licensed skydiver and jump for UF falling gators club. I went 3 months without jumping, so when i finally went up and jump, I didn't keep my stability for long. I had to re-do the jump 3 times in order to successfully stay stable and control myself while falling. I would literally spin out of control until my partner would come and stop me. It was very frustrating and i almost gave up.
2) I learned that frustration can only lead to mistakes and severe problems- especially when skydiving. I had to calm down and take my time during my jumps in order to control myself. The more i relaxed the more i state stable and did not spin out of control. Patience is key. Even when jumping out of a plane.
3) Failure is hard. It is discouraging. It is frustrating. But it is also motivating. Overtime failing meant that i had to try a little harder in the future. It gave me some hope that i may succeed if i try again. This class has opened my mind up to failure I accept it and almost expect it. If i don't fail, than whatever was doing was too easy. I have always been a risk-taker. This class only proved it for me.
Hi Cristal,
ReplyDeleteI wish I could relate to your skydiving stories but unfortunately I like my life too much. I would hate to make a clumsy mistake in such a stressful situation. Maybe when I am older and my self loathing catches up to me, I will try to be as adventurous as you. I think it is incredible how you continued to persevere even after "failing" several times. I also tend to agree with you that failure is there to motivate us. I also believe that a personal identity that you refuse to compromise is essential to overcoming failure and realising our true potential. Great post! If you have the time check out my blog:

I'm glad this class solidified what you already knew. But someone who is a licensed sky diver strikes me as someone who knows they are a risk taker. I'm not very learned in the aspect of skydiving, but I know that failure is a huge consequences in that field. Your situation really shows that practice does make perfect and if you keep at it, anything can be accomplished.

Hi Cristal,
ReplyDeleteI think you have some really good perspective on failure. I really think failure is the best way to motivate a person, I know that I have personally accomplished a great deal after a huge failure. I really wish I had the guts to go skydiving, I think your example is definitely the first I've seen on the subject haha, great post!
